SUMMARY:Webinars: The Building Owner’s Blueprint for Savings
DESCRIPTION:Register Here \nMaine is navigating rising energy costs across the board. Residential and commercial electricity rates are being driven up by high wholesale prices\, grid infrastructure costs\, and storm recovery expenses. Natural gas and other fuels used for heat and power generation also remain at elevated prices\, creating sustained pressure on operational budgets and competitiveness. \nJoin the City of Portland’s FREE two-part webinar series to understand both advanced onsite energy solutions and data-driven efficiency strategies that can help you reduce future energy costs. \nWEBINAR: TAP into Onsite Energy and Efficiency Maine Programs – November 19th at 11:00am\nIs your facility looking to enhance reliability and lower energy costs? Join us for an online discussion with technical assistance providers from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Onsite Energy Program and Efficiency Maine. \nIn this webinar you will: \nLearn how to leverage free regionally tailored technical support to help you evaluate\, select\, and install onsite energy technologies at your industrial\, manufacturing\, or large energy user location. We can help you evaluate all available technologies – including combined heat and power (CHP)\, thermal storage\, electricity storage\, and solar energy. \nLearn about Efficiency Maine’s distributed generation and demand management incentive programs available to businesses\, manufacturers and other non residential facilities. This program can compensate you for reducing your energy usage when the electrical grid is under strain. \n– \nWEBINAR: Free Tools to Predict and Prioritize Your Biggest Energy Savings – November 20th at 11:00am\nStop guessing where to save! Join us for a technical deep-dive into the Building Efficiency Targeting Tool for Energy Retrofits (BETTER) Reports. Using existing benchmarking data\, the tool enables building operators to quickly and easily identify the most cost-saving energy efficiency measures in buildings and portfolios. A BETTER Report can quantify the energy savings\, cost reductions\, and payback periods of the improvements it recommends. Use this free tool before conducting expensive site visits. Our speaker Claire Rabbit\, Energy and Climate Analyst at ClearlyEnergy\, will walk you through how to use this tool to transform your building and portfolio data into actionable first steps. \nClaire will also showcase another tool\, BEAM’s Enhanced Building Owner Portal. This tool helps you better understand your building’s current energy performance through detailed visualizations\, see what Portland program administrators see\, and identify data flags and warnings to help you comply with the policy.

SUMMARY:Tariff Strategies for Maine Manufacturers presented by MITC
DESCRIPTION:Is your global supply chain in need of an overhaul?\nHow can you legally eliminate\, delay\, or recover some of these once-in-a-lifetime duties? \nFor small manufacturers that rely on imported products and materials\, US tariffs could mean a significant increase in costs of production\, reducing competitiveness domestically and internationally. When other countries retaliate with their own tariffs on US exports\, the impact on prices is compounded. \nAlthough there is no magic pill or one-size-fits-all solution\, there are a variety of strategies you can employ to guide your business through the ongoing disruptions of changing trade policy. \nJoin Maine International Trade Center (MITC) and Manufacturers Association of Maine (MAME) for this live webinar with Mike Allocca from Allocca Enterprises\, Inc. Listen and learn to ensure you are doing everything you can to help your company stay on top of available tariff mitigation options. \nRequest registration link here

SUMMARY:Cross Insurance Webinar: Paid Family and Medical Leave Self-Insured Group
DESCRIPTION:The Manufacturers Association of Maine will be hosting a webinar with Cross Insurance to inform members about the PFML program. Please join us to learn more about this program\, but also feel free to reach out to us before April 22nd because the deadline is quickly approaching. Below is the statement from Cross. \n“Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) is a state-mandated program that will provide up to 12 weeks of paid leave to Maine workers beginning in May of 2026. All Maine employers have been required to pay into the program as of January 1\, 2025 but may be exempted from the program if they are approved for a private plan by May 31st. \nAs you know\, we’re working on creating a self-insured group to meet these requirements. There are a number of potential benefits of a group program: better control\, more efficient administration\, tiered rating that tracks with experience\, refunds for lower cost results\, TPA services for appeals and disputes\, sharing best practices\, and ownership of any pre-payments. Over 40 companies have expressed an interest in working together to provide and fund this benefit and a great deal of work has been done to further those efforts. \nCurrently\, the law requires each individual company to make application to MDOL for permission and the application requires a surety bond naming that company. Cross is working to streamline and expedite both the application and the bond purchase. \nOur preliminary actuarial study indicates that if the program performs as advertised\, the group will break even with a premium that is approximately .84% of payroll. This compares favorably to the state’s initial premium of 1%. At that level\, there would be no need for pre-payments\, but the prospective members have proposed collecting six months of premium in advance starting in November 2025. This would amount to banking money against adverse experience\, but it would not be spent or paid to the state or an insurance company but returned to the members if not needed. \nOur goal is to get all members approved prior to May 31 so that you no longer need to contribute any money to the state effective April 1. If you join and are approved before 5/31\, you will not have any payments due from April 1 until the Group’s pre-funding starting November 1.” \nRegister here.
