The Screw Machine Operator is responsible for setup and operating one or more of the screw machines (Davenport, Wickman or Euroturn) equipped with automatic indexing and feeding mechanism to perform turning, boring threading & facing operations on metal bar stock, analyzing specifications and deciding on tooling according to knowledge of screw machine operations. Reading and interpreting blueprints for dimensions of parts, tolerance, and plans sequences of operation, selecting cutting speeds, feed rates, depth of cuts & cutting tools to be used based on experience & knowledge of metal properties and shop mathematics. The Screw Machine Operator follows all established safety guidelines and is responsible for general preventative maintenance and communicating any maintenance needs to the Production Manager and is professional, respectful, courteous & friendly to all fellow employees, Supervisors & Managers at Masters Machine. The Screw Machine Operator reports to Production Manager

Responsibilities:

·         Starts machines observes operations and verifies conformance to specifications of first run & sample parts, using instruments such as plug & ring gauges, calipers, and micrometers

·         Positions and secures tools in tool holders, verifying positions using measuring instruments & gauges

·         Moves controls to set cutting speeds and feed rates. Crank the machine through cycle, stopping and adjusting tool position & machine controls to allow for such factors as timing, clearance between moving parts and chip removal

·         Knows movement of parts, work pieces & tools in each operation in relation to others, decides on station & timing of each operation to assure efficient use of tools and time

·         Installs & adjusts collets, bushings, & stock pushers in stock feeding mechanism, using wrenches and screwdrivers

·         Installs & adjusts cams, gears and stops to control stock and tool movements at each station

·         Replaces worn tools

·         May operate a bench grinder to sharpen tools, may set up machines for other operators and will complete statistical process control paperwork at required intervals

·         Conducting daily maintenance checks, including coolant monitoring

·         Empty chip totes as required, keeping area clean & safe.
